Fleet breakdown
All Nippon Airways 787-8 Business Class
2 versions · 5.3 to 8.6 out of 10 · 4 tracked routes
We have measured 2 physically different business-class cabins that All Nippon Airways flies on the 787-8. They score 5.3/10 to 8.6/10 — a 3.3-point gap on the same aircraft type, with the same airline, often on the same route.
Booking sites show one “Business” fare for all of them. Below is what each version actually is, how much of the flying it accounts for in the flight data we track, and which routes tend to get which.
The Versions, Ranked2 versions
Shares are the observed mix across the routes we track, from Flightradar24 flight history resolved to individual registrations. They describe our tracked network, not All Nippon Airways's whole 787-8 fleet — and a version we haven't measured would not appear here at all.
How to Tell Which One You're Getting
ANA Business Staggered8.6/10
Thirty-two fully flat business class seats arranged in a staggered 1-2-1 pattern across nine rows. The staggered layout alternates between rows of four seats (1-2-1) and rows of three seats (1-1-1), with every seat angled to provide direct aisle access without disturbing a neighbour. Even-numbered rows feature a coveted center "throne" seat flanked by the footwells of adjacent rows, offering exceptional isolation. Odd-numbered rows pair two center seats alongside two window seats. Each seat converts to a fully flat bed. Amenities include a 17-inch touch-panel LCD monitor, a large sliding table, a personal reading lamp, shoe storage, under-ottoman storage, and USB plus PC power ports. A do-not-disturb indicator light is fitted at each seat.
- Look for the 184-seat 787-8 configuration (32 business class, 14 premium economy, 138 economy)
- Seats are angled/staggered — window seats do not align directly beside the aisle seats in the same row
- If the center of the cabin shows an alternating pattern of paired center seats and single "throne" seats, this is the Staggered variant
- Distinguished from the Business Cradle variant, which has 6-abreast seating (42 J seats in 7 rows)
ANA Business Cradle5.3/10
Forty-two business class seats in a 2-2-2 six-abreast configuration across seven rows. Seats feature a cradle-recline mechanism that reclines to approximately 160 degrees — angled but not fully flat. Seat width is approximately 21.5 inches (54.6 cm) and seat pitch is 59 inches (approximately 150 cm), providing generous legroom for a recliner seat. The cabin includes adjustable headrests and a four-way adjustable footrest. Amenities include an IFE monitor and overhead stowage. Window seats require stepping over the aisle seat to reach the aisle.
- Look for the 240-seat 787-8 configuration (42 business class, 198 economy — no premium economy)
- Six-abreast seating visible in the business cabin (pairs of seats left-center-right)
- Distinguished from Business Staggered by the 6-abreast non-staggered arrangement and absence of the "throne" center seat pattern
- Seats do NOT lie fully flat — cradle recline only
