A single, unique China Airlines A350-900 (B-18919, formerly SAS SE-RSA, MSN 358) carries the original Scandinavian Airlines Vantage XL business cabin essentially intact, with only minor rebranding (headrests, IFE skin). Thompson Aero Vantage XL in a 1-2-1 staggered layout provides every passenger direct aisle access and a fully flat bed. There are no closing privacy doors — the staggered geometry and side console do the privacy work — so the suite feels open compared to newer door-equipped products. Even-numbered rows place the window seat against the window for the most privacy and best views; odd-numbered rows shift the window seat toward the aisle.

Cabin Highlights

  • Thompson Vantage XL in 1-2-1 staggered layout — every seat has direct aisle access
  • Fully flat bed roughly 78 inches (about 198 cm) long
  • Inherited SAS cabin: 40 business seats across rows 10-21, far roomier than CAL's standard 32J A350 fleet
  • Universal AC and USB power, large IFE display, gasper vents and adjustable headrest
  • One-of-a-kind in the CAL fleet — only B-18919 carries this product

Strategic Seating

Best Rows
  • Even-numbered window rows (e.g. 10A/K, 12A/K, 14A/K, 16A/K, 18A/K, 20A/K) — window seat is hard against the window for maximum privacy and view
  • Last row of the forward mini-cabin if present — fewer foot-traffic interruptions
  • Center pair 'true honeymoon' rows where seats sit together rather than split — best for travelling pairs
Rows to Avoid
  • Odd-numbered window rows — window seat is shifted toward the aisle, reducing privacy and view
  • Bulkhead row directly behind a galley or lavatory — noise and light spill
  • Center seats in 'split' rows for solo travellers expecting a true window-style cocoon

How to book this cabin

Airlines may change equipment at any time. To ensure you get the A350-900 (359), always check the seat map during and after booking.

Look for these hints:

  • Look for "A350-900" or "359"
  • Staggered 1-2-1 cabin with a side console next to each window seat (NOT reverse herringbone)
  • Seat alternates position row-by-row: even rows hug the window, odd rows sit closer to the aisle
  • Open suite with a fixed shell — no sliding/closing privacy door
  • Center pairs alternate between 'true middle' and 'split' configurations across rows
  • Cabin spans rows 10-21 (40 seats), notably larger than CAL's other A350s which seat 32 in J
